THE PRELUDE – “Now let all things living” Christ Chimes

THE EASTER GOSPEL – John 20:1-18 (please stand)
Pastor: After Jesus rose early on Sunday, Mary stood outside, facing the grave and crying. As she cried, she looked into the grave and saw two angels in white clothes, sitting where the body of Jesus had been laying. They asked her:
Men: Woman, why are you crying?
Women: They have taken my Lord away and I don’t know where they have laid him.
Pastor: As she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she didn’t know it was Jesus.
Men: Woman, why are you crying? For whom are you looking?
Women: Sir, if you have carried him away tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.
Pastor: Jesus said to her:
Men: Mary!
Pastor: She turned and said to Him in the Aramaic language.
Women: My Master!
Pastor: Jesus told her:
Men: Do not hold on to me because I have not yet returned to my father, but go to my brothers and tell them I am going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.
Pastor: Mary from Magdala went up to the Disciples who had been with Him, and who now were mourning and crying, and she told them:
Women: I have seen the Lord and he has said these things to me!
Pastor: When they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they didn’t believe her. But now I ask you, is Christ risen from the dead?
All: HE IS RISEN INDEED, HALLELUJAH!

THE CONFESSION OF SINS

Pastor Our Help is in the name of the Lord.
People: Who made heaven and earth.
Pastor: I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord.
People: And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.
Pastor: Almighty God, our Maker and Redeemer, we poor
sinners confess unto You that we are by nature sinful and unclean and that we have sinned against You in thought, word and deed. Wherefore we flee for refuge to Your infinite mercy, seeking and imploring Your grace for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ.
All: O most merciful God, who has given Your only begotten Son to die for us, have mercy upon us and for his sake grant us remission of all our sins; and by thy Holy Spirit increase in us true knowledge of You and of Your will and true obedience to Your word, to the end that by Your grace we may come to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE WORD OF ABSOLUTION
Pastor: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, has had mercy upon us and has given His only son to die for us and for His sake forgives us all our sins. To them that believe on His Name He gives power to become the children of God and has promised them His Holy Spirit. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved. Grant this Lord unto us all.
People: Amen.

(Please be seated.)

THE INTROIT
Pastor: Alleluia. Christ has risen, as he said. He has risen from the dead. Alleluia.
People: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Pastor: Let Israel say: “His love endures forever.”
People: I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me.
Pastor: I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.
People: The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone:
Pastor: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
People: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, from the house of the Lord we bless you.
Pastor: Alleluia. Christ has risen, as he said He has risen from the dead. Alleluia.

THE GLORIA PATRI
All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

THE KYRIE
People: Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us.

THE GLORIA IN EXCELSIS
Pastor: Glory be to God on high:
People: And on earth peace, good will toward men. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory. O Lord God, heav’nly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sin of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sin of the world, receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father, have mercy upon us. For Thou only art holy; Thou only art the Lord. Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

COLLECT
Pastor: The Lord be with you
People: And with Thy Spirit.
Pastor: Let us pray to the Lord.
ALL: O God, for our redemption you have given your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection you have delivered us from the power of our enemy. Therefore grant that all our sin may be drowned through daily repentance and that day by day a new man may arise to live before you in righteousness and purity forever; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.

The First Reading – Isaiah 25:6-9
6 On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples  a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine,  of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.
7 And he will swallow up on this mountain  the covering that is cast over all peoples,  the veil that is spread over all nations.
8     He will swallow up death forever; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces,  and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth,  for the Lord has spoken.
9 It will be said on that day,  “Behold, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us.   This is the Lord; we have waited for him;  let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

THE GRADUAL
All: Christ has risen from the dead, God the Father has crowned him with glory and honor, he has made him ruler over the works of his hands; he has put everything under his feet.

EPISTLE LESSON – 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
1 Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
8 Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.
9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.
11 Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

THE GOSPEL PROCESSION

#463 – Christ the Lord is Risen Today; Alleluia! vs. 1,2

As the Cross and Bible process into the center of the Sanctuary the congregation is invited to turn to face the Cross in preparation for the reading of the Gospel.

Pastor: The Holy Gospel is written in the 16th chapter of St. Mark beginning at the 1st verse.
People: Glory be to Thee, O Lord!

1When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.
3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”
4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.
5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.
6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.
7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”
8 And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Pastor: This is the Gospel of our Lord.
People: Praise be to Thee, O Christ!
